McEnroe Organic Farm maintains the fundamental principles of organic farming, nourishing our soil through careful strip cropping, rotations and amending it with compost. We maintain sustainable agriculture on over 1,200 acres allotted for organic fruits & vegetables as well as grain, hay, pasture, composting and woodland. When protecting crops, we use only Northeast Organic Farming Association (NOFA) approved herbicides, pesticides and fertilizers.
We have ten greenhouses for growing hothouse vegetables, seedlings and transplants. Additionally we have seven cold frames to grow fresh leafy vegetables and herbs during cold weather.
The majority of compost produced at our facility is used on the farm. Annually, the facility processes up to 40,000 cubic yards of manure, yard waste, and food waste and up to 20,000 cubic yards of finished compost. Through composting, we reduce the amount of solid waste which otherwise would have been disposed in a landfill.
